Purpose and Vision
All of us are part of some type of community, whether it be our neighborhood, workplace, or charitable group. We are curious to experience new places and new people, leaving us with a refreshing, positive attitude. We key in on those who inspire us with new purpose and vision. Be it the exuberant store owner, the radiant sales representative, or keynote speaker. We are inspired by those we feel make a difference in our communities, our lives and better yet, our world.
In business, we may refer to them as go-getters who are charismatic and devoted. We watch, as they come into meetings, or speak from the stage, and their demeanor lights up the room. They are greeted by all with smiles. We are drawn to these people and feel re-energized, as they inspire us to improve. In time, they see what a positive motivator they’ve become for those around them and they multiply the effort to help more people improve their lives.
However, some people, unfortunately, radiate negativity. Instead of encountering a warm, friendly vibe, we feel the urge to run in the opposite direction. This may happen in the corporate environment or at a networking event. The last thing anyone wants is to be drawn into a downward spiral coming from negativity.
I believe, through our positive attitude we emit light and energy, to which others are drawn. When we freely and willingly help others, our light gives them hope and inspiration to improve their lives.
Focus
What you focus on is what multiplies.
Read that line again. What you focus on is what multiplies. That means, if you continually compare yourself to others and feel you aren’t nearly as successful, then success will never find you. If you focus on darkness, pain, and negativity, more will manifest.
One example is when we walk down the street and see others smiling, we return the smile. Everyone feels the warmth in the simple gesture. We may consciously choose to walk away from those who only see the negatives in life. Susan shared that the moment she decided to move away from all the negative people in her life, she found herself in a positive space. Accordingly, she feels more energized and enthusiastic about her life and realizes how much easier it is to accomplish what she believes to be important.
The same applies to business and career. We realize that in order to make that next sale, or advance into the executive suite, we must meet our prospects and established clientele with positive thought and a smile.
Dr. Olivia Herriford’s Story
Another one of our members is bringing a light to entrepreneurs in Africa. Dr. Olivia Herriford was a professor at three different universities. She has taught courses about technology for more than 15 years. Dr. Olivia is known by her friends and community as “Dr. O” and is now a consultant. However, her heart’s work is with women and young entrepreneurs in Africa. Dr. Herriford has been visiting Africa for a few years. She teaches entrepreneurs business and life skills and lights up when she talks about them. Her positive energy not only radiates but is now illuminating the lives of African women and young entrepreneurs!
On August 19, 2017, in San Francisco, CA, Dr. Olivia is hosting a luncheon to bring women together to collaborate on ideas for the Women’s Conference in Kenya in 2018. She will be joined by a few women from Kenya at next week’s luncheon. Dr. O’s positive attitude and tenacity create a magnetic energy for other professionals to join together and assist with her work.
Dr. Herriford is also looking for 30 people from the United States to join her at the Conference in Kenya in 2018. Would you like to join Dr. Olivia in Kenya? If so, please contact her at olivia@womensharingwisdom.org.
